Red Door 104, an art gallery here in Farmville, is hosting their annual “Creative Prompt 2022” art competition. It takes a fun twist on a regular competition structure—instead of creating art individually, artists will base their art on writing submissions. At the end, after both sets of submissions have been judged separately, the writing and art will be displayed in their pairs at the gallery. Red Door 104 is accepting all forms of writing for the competition, even songs.
This competition pushes the boundaries of artistic creation, mixing genres in a way that will be fun and enlightening for the artists. Viewers will also get a glimpse into a piece of the artistic process. This competition, and events like it, build artistic communities, not just for writers but for artists of all forms.
The competition will be running for the next few months, with different deadlines for writers and artists. There are even cash prizes for the winners of both categories. If you’re interested, check out the competition information on their website (and remember to submit to A Common Place as well!) Even if you don’t enter the competition, consider visiting the gallery in May to see the art and writing by your peers and neighbors.
